2007-2008 Early Childhood/Preschool Director Scholarship A Blended Program: Early Childhood Education/Business Management for Preschools In 2007 The Primary Academy will begin to give a scholarship to assist teachers in obtaining an Early Childhood Degree and/or Daycare Directors Certificate. Scholarships of up to $500.00 are available for each year, fall and spring semesters. No scholarship money is available during the summer semester(s). Individuals who are returning to college to study early childhood, child development, or to obtain a State of Texas certified Director’s certificate are encouraged to apply.
For each semester of award, recipients must be: Employed by The Primary Academy for at least one year and with at least 30 hours a week in a designated classroom Enrolled in at least one required course in a planned program that is required for the Early Childhood/Daycare Directors certificate as required by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Directors credentials. Recipients are expected to enroll in a minimum of 6 credits and complete the program within two years All recipients must continue to meet criteria to renew their scholarship on a semester-by-semester basis. They must also sign an agreement that they will direct the facility, teach or work with children at The Primary Academy for a minimum of one year after qualifying and/or obtaining their Early Childhood degree or Director’s license and earning the Director’s Credential Certificate or at least 6 months after date of last acceptance of scholarship money.
Criteria Undergraduate or post-graduate students pursuing an Early Childhood Degree or State of Texas Daycare Director’s certificate Undergraduates minimum of 6 credits per semester Post-graduates minimum of 9 credits per semester Texas resident Commitment to employment at The Primary Academy for at least one year after qualifying for and obtaining a Director’s license Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 Written statement as to your professional goals and long term desire in regards to working with children Demonstrates knowledge of early childhood physical, emotional and academic development Completed lesson plans that are executed daily Has awareness of and follows State of Texas minimum standards for childcare licensing Excellent attendance Participates in planning of special events (i.e., Fall Festival, Christmas program, etc...) Evidence of quality relationship with coworkers and clients
The Process for Applications One copy of your current, unofficial transcript A minimum one-page statement of your qualifications, addressing specified criteria listed above Examples of classroom plans and children’s work Two current letters of recommendation (1 from coworker, 1 from client)
Teachers submit materials to Jennifer Schull or Stacey Barringer by August 10, 2007. A committee comprised of early childhood/early childhood educators and area business leaders will select recipients by August 24, 2007. The Primary Academy will notify the recipient as soon as the scholarship committee has made a decision. Alternate scholarship recipient will be notified after recipients have accepted or declined their awards.
